CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Charlotte 49ers women's soccer defender Mikel Casey (Greensboro, N.C./Grimsley) picked up her third post-season award when she was named to the second-team all-Southeast team by the online soccer publication SoccerBuzz. Casey previously was named to the first-team Conference USA squad and NSCAA third-team all-South.

As a tri-captain, she helped the team tie a school record with a 0.93 GAA clip. Along the way, Charlotte posted six shutouts in its nine victories, including four against C-USA foes.

In 2001, Casey posted her best season in a 49er uniform by recording career highs in goals (3), assists (5), and points (11). The five assists led the young 49er team, as they reached the conference semifinals with 7-2-1 conference mark. In three seasons for Charlotte, Casey has nine career assists ranking her 10th all-time in school history.

During the week of Sept. 17-23, she became the fourth player in school history to be named to the Soccer America National Team of the Week.
