CHARLOTTE, N.C. - In their final home match of the season, the Charlotte 49ers women's soccer team defeated conference foe Louisville, 3-1. The 49ers used three second half goals by three different players for the victory.

Preseason all-Conference USA selection Jill Hayes (Hubert, N.C./Swansboro) connected on her third goal of the season for the first goal of the match at 53:04. Following a Louisville foul, defender Shannon Roberto (Fairfield, Ohio/Badin) launched a shot from near midfield towards the penalty box, where freshman defender Jill Leeder (Spring, Texas/Klein) redirected the ball to the feet of a streaking Hayes, who fired the shot past Cardinal keeper Merideth Miller. Just under seven minutes later, sophomore Tiffany Ross (Lawrenceville, Ga./Collins Hill) sent a corner kick onto the feet of Kim Moore (Garner, N.C./Saint Mary's) inside the six-yard box. Moore then found Jennie Leeder (Spring, Texas/Klein), who turned and fired for the Niners' second goal of the match at 58:59.

The final 49er goal of the match was scored at 82:16, when midfielder Lindsay Duncan (Lilburn, Ga./Providence Christian Academy) sent a long pass to freshman Kim Miles (Raleigh, N.C./Leesville Road), who beat Miller on a breakaway for her first career goal.

Louisville scored their lone goal of the match at 74:03, when Mandy Rost collected a pass from Lisa Martin following a corner kick and found the back of the net past 49er keeper Jenn Howell (Marietta, Ga./McEachern) from the top of the penalty area.

Today's game marked the final home game in the career of midfielder Dawn Geyer (Bellbrook, Ohio/Alter), who was honored prior to the match as part of the annual Senior Day. In her final home game, Geyer registered one shot against the Cardinals.

With the triumph, the 49ers improve to 8-6-3, 6-2-1 in Conference USA for 13 points. Louisville drops to 4-12 overall, 2-7 in C-USA action for four points. According to league rules, each team receives two points for a win, one for a tie, and zero for a loss in determining the seeding for the upcoming Conference USA Tournament, which will be held November 7-10 in Milwaukee, Wis. The 49ers will wrap up the regular-season on Friday, November 2, as they travel to C-USA and in-state rival East Carolina.
