CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte women's soccer team fell 2-1 in overtime to the Duke Blue Devils on Wednesday evening at Duke's Koskinen Stadium. With the loss, the 49ers fall to 10-8-1, while Duke improves to 12-5.

Duke got on the board following a scoreless first half, at 51:36, when Alexis Highsmith beat Charlotte keeper Andrea Kollmorgen high on the short-side after she received passes from Kelly Harris and Susan Kraeger. It was not until the 78:56 mark when the 49ers scored the equalizer, when Jessica Mays drove down the right hand side and passed in front to Meredith Mayo, who slid the ball past Blue Devil goalkeeper Thora Helgadottir. At the end of regulation, the score remained 1-1.

In the overtime, each team traded possession for the first ten minutes. With just over three minutes remaining in the first extra session, Charlotte was called for a foul just outside the penalty box. Kim Daws, a Duke midfielder, converted the resulting free-kick to give the Blue Devils a 2-1 victory.

In the defeat, Charlotte keeper Kollmorgen registered a career-high ten saves on 23 Blue Devil shots. Helgadottir made seven saves for Duke in the victory.

The 49ers will conclude the regular-season on Sunday, October 29, at C-USA opponent South Florida before heading to St. Louis next week for the conference tournament. In the tournament, Charlotte will be the 4th-seed of an 8 team field.
