49ers Remain Undefeated In A-10 With A 3-1 Victory At Xavier

Rachel Baer recorded her first career multiple goals game

Oct. 19, 2007

Box Score

Cincinnati, OH - The Charlotte 49ers (11-3-1, A-10: 6-0-1) behind two goals from junior Rachel Baer remained undefeated in the Atlantic 10 with a 3-1 victory at Xavier (3-12-1, A-10: 2-5-1). Charlotte's victory coupled with a 1-1 double overtime tie between Dayton and Saint Louis moved the 49ers into sole possession of first place in the Atlantic 10.

"Xavier did a very good job of making it very difficult for us today," Charlotte coach Jon Lipsitz said. "We always talk about players having special moments in a game that will decide the outcome. It was great to have Rachel Baer, who has battled injuries this season, to seize those special moments today."

Danielle Mayeaux gave the 49ers the early lead when she headed the ball past Xavier goalkeeper Kelly Farrell off assists from Lindsey Ozimek and Sam Huecker in the 13th minute. Mayeaux's goal was her third of the season.

Xavier tied the game when Allison Osborne scored off a Carissa Gilbert corner kick in the 31st minute.

The 49ers regained the lead for good when Baer scored her first goal when she put the ball into the right corner of the goal from inside the box in the 75th minute.

Baer tallied her second goal of the game when she beat Xavier's keeper Farrell on a breakaway goal in the 80th minute. Baer's two goals now give her three on the season.

The 49ers finished the game with a 14-7 advantage in shots. Melissa Morris, Mayeaux and Ozimek each tallied three shots for the 49ers attack. Whitney Weinraub and Rachel Mees each added two shots for the 49ers.

The 49ers look to remain in first place in the Atlantic 10 when they travel to Dayton (11-3-2, A-10: 5-1-2), Sunday, October 21 at 1 pm.

"We are very excited about playing Dayton on Sunday," Lipsitz said. "We were pleased to get a win and not have any injuries in tonight's game. However, we were not pleased with some of the incidents that occurred at the end of the game but we are moving forward and looking toward the Dayton game on Sunday."
