CHARLOTTE, N.C. - 1999 Conference USA Player of the Year, senior Jill Currie, scored her first career hat-trick to propell the 49ers' women's soccer team to a 3-2 victory over Southern Miss on October 15 at Transamerica Field. Currie scored her first goal of the match at 13:16 following passes from Lindsay Duncan and Sarah Judy when she lifted the ball over Golden Eagles' goalkeeper Hope Herron. Duncan's assist was her third on the weekend, following two assists in the 2-0 victory over Tulane on Friday night. At the half, Charlotte led 1-0.

Currie put the 49ers on the board again at 68:03 when her and fellow senior Meredith Mayo had a two-on-one break inside the Southern Miss penalty box. Mayo picked up her second assist of the game on Currie's third goal at 70:14. Currie's nine points on the afternoon gives her a career-high and team-leading 25 points for the season, including a career-high nine assists and eight goals, which matches a career-high.

Southern Miss got on the board at 81:56 when Stacey Hall received a long pass from Katie Adams and dribbled inside the box and placed the ball past 49er keeper Andrea Kollmorgen, who was making her first career start. Hall and Adams connected again to close the gap at 3-2 at the 85:03 mark, when Hall chipped a ball over the outstretched arms of Kollmorgen.

With the victory, Charlotte improves to 9-6-1, 6-1-1 in Conference USA. Southern Miss drops to 7-6-0, 4-4-0 on the season. Currie, Mayo, and Judy played their final home game in a 49er uniform on Senior Day. As a team, the 49ers extended their home unbeaten streak against C-USA opponents to 24 games, which dates back to September 29, 1996, and includes 21 wins and three ties.
