Charlotte, N.C. - Behind two goals from freshman midfielder Sam Huecker, the Charlotte 49ers women's soccer team blanked George Washington (6-6-0; A-10 1-4-0) 3-0 Friday evening at Transamerica Field, moving the team to 9-3-1, A-10 4-0-1. With the shutout, sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Brown has now recorded 7.5 shutouts for the season, setting a school single-season shutout record. Charlotte has now allowed only one goal in 470 minutes of conference play.
"I thought George Washington put up a tremendous fight this evening," head coach Jon Lipsitz. "I was very impressed with their possession and style of play."
After a scoreless first half, Charlotte broke open the scoring in the 73rd minute behind a goal from junior forward Rachel Baer off an assist from sophomore midfielder Hailey Beam.
Huecker rounded out the 49er offensive attack with back-to-back goals in the 83rd and 85th minutes, the first off an assist from senior midfielder Lindsey Ozimek and the latter unassisted.
"While we started out the game with a good deal of opportunities we failed to convert, we eventually relaxed and allowed ourselves to score," Lipsitz said.
Charlotte enjoyed a 21-5 advantage in shots, with a 13-3 advantage in shots on goal.
The 49ers return to action Sunday at Transamerica Field, taking on conference foe Richmond at 1 p.m.
