Charlotte, NC -- The Charlotte 49ers jumped out of the gate with three goals in the first 20 minutes to top the Saint Joseph's Hawks 3-1 in Atlantic 10 soccer action Sunday. With the win Charlotte improves to 7-3-2 overall and 2-0 in the Atlantic 10. With the loss the Hawks fall to 4-7, 1-1 in the A-10.

Nikki Labuda got the scoring started in fifth minute on a cross from Rachel Mees to give the Niners the early lead. Two minutes later Mees would add another goal on an assist from Lindsey Ozimek for a two goal cushion. It was the fourth goal of the season for Mees.

Charlotte would get their final goal in the 19th minute as Labuda struck again, off a free kick from Ozimek. Brittany Dorsch deflected the kick to Labuda who tallied her team-high fifth goal of the season.

Saint Joseph's would get their lone goal of the match in the 25th minute on the first goal of the season from Laura Adams. Ali Wean had the assist.

The rest of the game went scoreless, as sophomore goalkeeper Juli Black tallied six saves on the match. For the game the Hawks out-shot Charlotte 18-11, including an 11-3 edge in the second half. Charlotte held an 8-7 edge in shots on goal. Jen Kuhn had five saves for St. Joseph's.

Labuda, Mees and Ozimek did most of the damage for Charlotte, combining for three goals and three assists. Charlotte has now scored 13 goals in the last four matches.

"Last year everyone talked about how well Mees and Labuda were playing, and that they were a special tandem." said coach Jon Lipsitz. "They've been injured earlier this season and they are just now rounding into form, and they're even better now than they were last year."

Up next for the 49ers is a five-game conference road trip that starts at La Salle Friday, October 6 at 7 p.m. "This is going to be a challenging stretch, but our team responds very well to challenges." said Lipsitz.
