CHARLOTTE, N.C. - On Sunday, September 17, the Charlotte women's soccer team rolled over Conference USA foe UAB, 3-0. Senior preseason all-conference selection Meredith Mayo took passes on the run from Lindsay Duncan and Shannon Roberto and found the back of the net at 20:41. At half, the score remained 1-0.
The second half saw Charlotte receiving many opportunities to score, however, it was not until the 80:28 mark when Sarah Judy was able to put the 49ers on the board again and make the score 2-0. Judy fired her shot from the top of the penalty area after receiving passes from Jill Hayes and Jill Currie. Mayo later found junior Dawn Geyer, who tallied the final Charlotte goal on the afternoon at 85:09.
"I feel this was our most complete game of the year," said head coach Neil Roberts. "We were really dangerous around the ball today. I'm really proud of Jenn Howell and our defense for keeping a clean net - that's something we set as a standard. Sarah Judy's goal was huge for us. It gave us that extra cushion."
49er goalkeeper Jennifer Howell recorded her second shutout on the season.
With the victory, Charlotte improves to 5-4 overall, and 2-0 in Conference USA on the season. UAB drops to 1-5-2, 0-2-1 this season.
The 49ers will return to action next weekend against Saint Louis on Friday, September 22 at 5:30 p.m. and Houston on Sunday, September 24 at 2:30 p.m. Both games are Conference USA matches.
