Chapel Hill, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers Women's Soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to 19th-ranked Duke, Sunday afternoon, at the Carolina Classic in Chapel Hill, N.C. Duke scored on a goal by Casey McCluskey at 66:26 in the second half for the game's only goal. The Blue Devils (2-2) outshot the 49ers (0-2-1), 19-4 but 49er junior goalkeeper Jenn Howell registered nine saves to keep the 49ers within striking distance. The 49ers had opportunities to get on the board with a couple point-blank shots by Abbie Allison and Tracie Jones, however, neither player was able to find the back of the net behind the stifling Blue Devil defense.

The loss was the 49ers second at the Carolina Classic, following a 5-0 loss to top-ranked North Carolina, Friday night.

The 49ers continue on the road at UNC Greensboro, Wed., Sept. 12. The 49ers home opener is Tues., Sept. 18 vs. Davidson at 7:00 p.m.
