DAVIDSON, N.C. - Charlotte's Jill Hayes knocked in a deflection off the cross bar at the 96:24 mark of tonight women's soccer match at Richardson Stadium to give the Charlotte 49ers a 3-2 overtime victory over the Wildcats of Davidson College.

The Wildcats fell behind early in the match as Jill Currie put a ball in the back of the net at the 4:55 mark to give Charlotte a 1-0 advantage. The 49ers scored just under five minutes later on a Kim Moore tally.

Davidson rallied to close the gap at 2-1 on a goal by freshman Leigh Anne Hoskins which was setup by sophomore Amy Johnston midway through the first period of play. The teams headed to the locker rooms with the 49ers holding a 2-1 lead.

Charlotte controlled the play in the second half, but the Wildcats were able to scratch back and knot the match at 2-2 in the 89th minute when sophomore Heather Maloney found Hoskins in the penalty area for the game-tying score.

"I'm disappointed that we re unable to come away with a victory tonight," said Davidson head coach Kevin Hundley, "but I'm encouraged by the fact that we had the composure and heart to get a goal back in the first half and then continued to work until literally almost the last minute of the game and tie it."

The two Jills - Currie and Hayes - scored in the same match for the second time this season to help lead the 49ers to victory. It was the third match that Charlotte has played in which the final score has been 3-2.

Charlotte returns to action Saturday at home against UNC Greensboro.
