Columbus, OH - Sophomore Whitney Weinraub scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season as the Charlotte 49ers (2-1-1) tied Big Ten foe Ohio State, 1-1, on the road. Charlotte fourth-year head coach Jon Lipsitz was an assistant coach for four years at Ohio State before taking over the 49ers women's soccer program in 2005.
"Tonight's game was a tremendous battle between two very good teams," Lipsitz said. "The tie was a fair result after the way the two teams played tonight. Hopefully, our team learned a lot. Playing great teams on the road will only prepare us more for the quality opponents we have down the road on our schedule."
Charlotte's double overtime tie with Ohio State was the 49ers first tie since a 1-1 tie against Atlantic 10 foe Fordham, September 30, 2007.
Charlotte's Whitney Weinraub continued her torrid scoring pace when she scored on a shot from 18 yards out that went off the post and into the goal in the 16th minute.
Ohio State tied the score when Lisa Collison scored off an Ashley Bowyer assist in the 55th minute.
The two teams each tallied 11 shots in the game. Weinraub paced the 49ers with four shots. While, Jenna McKeon and Danielle Mayeaux added three shots apiece to the 49ers attack.
Charlotte's goalkeeper Lauren Brown recorded four saves in the game.
