Charlotte, N.C. - Charlotte basketball fans can make history at Halton Arena this season by setting an attendance record on Wednesday, January 30 as the 49ers women's basketball team takes on La Salle at 7 p.m. as part of the NCAA Pack the House Challenge. The first 500 students in attendance at the game will receive a commemorative gold t-shirt.
The Pack the House Challenge is a competition among NCAA member schools in which schools compete nationally and against their conference rivals to set attendance records and grow the sport of women's basketball. This is an opportunity to further develop national grassroots programs aimed at increasing attendance and awareness, and to establish 49ers fans as the best in the Atlantic 10 Conference, as well as among the best nationally.
This contest is also highlighted as the second of three 49er Pride Rewards Program games on the women's basketball schedule. The program rewards men's basketball season ticket holder and student attendance at Charlotte men's and women's games throughout the year. Two of the rewards will be distributed on January 30, with t-shirt pick-up being continued for those who have attended seven rewards program contests, and for those who have attended thirteen games this season, this game will feature the first contest that the white Nike 49 hat may be picked up.
The 49ers (13-7), who sport an 8-2 home record this season, have made five consecutive postseason appearances, beginning with the 2001-02 season. They are led by first year head coach Karen Aston and senior 1,000 point scorer Sabrina Gregory, along with juniors Danielle Burgin (11.6 ppg, 8.7 rpg) and Traci Ray (8.5 ppg, 41% 3-point fg pct.).
