Charlotte Takes On East Carolina Sunday

The women's basketball team is one of four schools still undefeated in league play.

GREENVILLE, N.C. - Tied for first in Conference USA, the Charlotte 49ers wrap up their three-game road swing this weekend, playing at travel partner East Carolina this Sunday at 2 p.m. Both teams enter the game undefeated un Conference USA play.

Charlotte travels to Greenville with a four-game winning streak. They picked up a pair of milestone wins last weekend, winning for the first time ever at Southern Miss, 59-57. They also won at Tulane, 72-61, for the team's first win in New Orleans in more than a decade. East Carolina (13-4, 4-0 C-USA) must be feeling good as well. They have won their last seven games. Last weekend, the Pirates beat the Green Wave, 65-58, on Friday and the Golden Eagles, 56-53, on Sunday.

The 49ers lead the series with the Pirates by an 18-6 count, earning wins in the last three meetings. Last season, the team's played on back-to-back weekends with the Niners first winning at Minges Coliseum, 83-57, then winning in Halton Arena, 79-63. East Carolina's last win over Charlotte came back during the 2001-02 season, a 62-57 win in Greenville. The Niners are 7-4 all-time when playing the Pirates on the road.

Last Time Out: Charlotte shot 61 percent from the field in the first half and 50 percent for the game to defeat Tulane, 72-61. It was the 49ers' first win against the Wave in New Orleans since the 1991-92 season. Up 46-31 at intermission, the Niners padded their lead to as many as 21 in the second half. The Green Wave rallied to within nine, but were unable to come any closer. Peaches Harris powered Charlotte, scoring a season-high 22 points. In four games against the Green Wave during her career, she averaged 22 points.

Up Next: Following Sunday's game at East Carolina, Charlotte returns home to take on nationally-ranked DePaul (16-1, 4-0 C-USA) on Saturday, Jan. 31. The Blue Demons are ranked 16th in this week's Associated Press poll. Last season, they handed the 49ers their first C-USA loss, a 68-83 decision in Chicago. It also snapped Charlotte's 10-game win streak. The Demons lead the series with the Niners, 10-5. The 49ers' last win in the series was a 75-63 victory in the 2001-02 season.

Meier Bobblehead Day Set For TCU: Head coach Katie Meier will be honored with her very own bobblehead during the team's against nationally-ranked TCU, Feb. 15. Dolls will be given away to the first 1,000 fans through the door. It will also be National Women and Girls in Sports Day with all youth 17-and-under admitted free. Meier's will be the second bobblehead given away by the 49ers this season. During the men's game versus East Carolina, fans were presented with bobbleheads of recent Charlotte graduate Clay Aiken.

Peaches Closing In On 1,000: After her 22 points at Tulane, Peaches Harris is just 90 away from 1,000 of her career. She has scored 910 career points, entering Sunday's game at East Carolina. With 11 games to go (10 regular-season and one in the C-USA Tournament), she needs to average 8.2 per game to become the 12th player in school history with 1,000 points.
