Women's Basketball Preps For East Carolina

Charlotte opens the Conference USA season Sunday at 2:00. The game will be televised on the C-USA TV network.

GREENVILLE, N.C. - Charlotte begins the Conference USA season this weekend, when they travel to Greenville, N.C., for a Sunday afternoon game at East Carolina. The game will be televised as part of the C-USA Network. The 49ers lead the series with the Pirates by a 15-5 count. ECU has won the last two, but prior to that the Niners won 12 in a row. The last meeting came in 1999-00 with East Carolina taking the 99-91 win in double overtime.

THE 49ERS' LAST GAME
Three players scored in double figures to lead Charlotte to a 60-58 win at S.C. State. Alicia Abernathy led the Niners with 16, knocking down a pair of big three-pointers in the second half. Jen Williams (an Orangeburg, S.C., native) and Brandy Patterson were also in double figures with 10 each.

UP NEXT FOR THE NINERS
After East Carolina, Charlotte hosts UNC Asheville Tuesday, Jan. 8 in Halton Arena. It will be the 49ers first home game since they gave up a 61-59 decision to Davidson Dec. 6. The Niners lead the series, 8-3, with in wins in eight of the last nine, including a 56-47 win in '98. Head coach Katie Meier began her collegiate coaching career as an assistant at UNCA in 1994.
