CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Rallying from a nine-point deficit to retake the lead in the second half, the Charlotte 49ers women's basketball team wasn't able to sustain their momentum and fell to Supreme Court, 67-59, Monday evening at Halton Arena. The loss evened the 49ers' record for the exhibition season at 1-1.
Tia Pascal led Supreme Court with 17 points and nine rebounds. Freshman center Lauren Price was Charlotte's scoring leader for the second-straight game with 16 points. She shot 8-for-12 from the field, while also leading her team on the boards with nine rebounds. Senior Tonya Phifer also reached double figures with 12 points.
The 49ers led, 32-31 at the half. Freshman Tara Harris hit a pair of free throws to give the Niners their largest lead of the game at 28-20 with 5:32 to go in the half, but Supreme Court fought back with a 7-2 run to pull within one. They quickly took the lead in the second half, building it to as many as nine before Charlotte rallied to retake the lead, 48-47, on a Price field goal.
Former 49ers Julia Burton and Mia Nance were also in double figures for Supreme Court with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
The 49ers play their first game of the regular season Friday, Nov. 17 at Massachusetts. Their home-opener is Saturday, Dec. 2, when they host Furman at 5:00 in Halton Arena.
