CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Freshman center Lauren Price scored 14 points with nine rebounds and redshirt freshman center Jennifer Williams added 10 points as the 49ers women's basketball team downed LKKA Kaunas of Lithuania, 77-61, in the team's first exhibition game of the season. Freshman forward Tiffany Hoey had eight points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

"Lauren and Tiffany did well on the boards and having Jennifer back was good to see," said 49ers head coach Ed Baldwin.

Senior point guard Tonya Phifer, a preseason All-Conference USA selection added 13 points with four assists and hit 6-of-11 field goals.

The 49ers built a 37-26 halftime lead on the strength of Phifer's nine first-half points and a clear rebounding advantage (26-16 at the half). The 49ers held LKKA Kaunas to .286 shooting (6-of-21) in the first frame. By the 13:45 mark of the second half, the lead had been extended to a game-high 20 points, 51-31. LKKA closed to within eight, 63-55, with 5:19 left to play but the Niners scored 12 of the next 16 points to put the lead back to a comfortable margin.

"Exhibition games show what you need to work on," added Baldwin. "Tonight, it was defense. Offensively, we did well when we reversed the ball. Defensively, we allowed them to penetrate and get to the line too often. Our team will be exciting this year."

The 49ers shot .442 from the floor and held LKKA to .370 shooting, but LKKA hit 24 of 35 free throws. The 49ers also won the battle of the boards, 54-25.

The 49ers will host Supreme Court, Monday, Nov. 13 at 7:00 in their final exhibition of the season. The 49ers season-opener is Nov. 17 at UMass. The home opener is Dec. 2 vs. Furman.
