Box Score

Charlotte, NC - Erin Floyd scored a career-high 20 points on her 20th birthday to lead the Charlotte 49ers (16-10, A-10: 7-3) to a 59-57 win over Saint Joseph's (13-11, A-10: 5-4) in Halton Arena. The victory was the 49ers seventh straight home win.

"I am extremely proud of our team in tonight's win," Charlotte coach Karen Aston said. "We played with only eight players and all eight of those players contributed to the win. We have good practices this week and we seem to play better after we have had several good practices. We were very patient on offense tonight. We played really well defensively. I have to commend our coaching staff on tonight's game plan and our players really executed the game plan tonight. We stayed focused tonight the entire game. This was a very good team win."

Floyd scored her career-high 20 points on 8-for-12 shooting from the field. Shannon McCallum recorded her eighth double-figure scoring game off the bench with 12 points. Danielle Burgin rounded out the 49ers double-figure scorers with 10 points.

"Erin was terrific tonight," Aston said. "She hit open jump shots especially when they started packing it in on Danielle down low."

The 49ers behind the scoring of Floyd and Burgin enjoyed a 30-24 advantage on points in the paint. The 49ers also outscored Saint Joseph's 16-4 on points off turnovers.

At the beginning of the game the lead exchanged hands several times with three ties over the first ten minutes of action. With the score tied for the third time, 13-13, Charlotte went on a 12-4 run taking a 25-17 lead with 5:55 left in the half. McCallum scored seven points and Floyd scored the other five points during Charlotte's run.

The 49ers maintained the lead for the remainder of the first half and a Floyd jump shot with 12 seconds left on the clock gave Charlotte a 33-27 lead at the half.

Saint Joseph's began the second half by scoring 11 of the half's first 15 points taking a 38-37 lead on Ashley Logue's three-point field goal at the 16:27 mark.

Then, Charlotte regained the lead, 46-38, with a 9-0 run over the next three minutes. McCallum scored four points, Traci Ray knocked down a three and a jump shot from the wing from Sabrina Gregory gave the 49ers their 46-38 lead.

Saint Joseph's scored 15 of the next 22 points to tie the score for the fourth time, 53-53, at the 6:24 mark.

Then, Ray gave Charlotte the lead for good with a three-point field goal from right in front of Charlotte's bench with 5:42 left on the clock.

Neither team scored for the next four minutes until Saint Joseph's Brittany Ford broke the scoreless drought with a tip-in off a missed shot cutting Charlotte's lead to 56-55 with 1:51 left in the game..

Floyd would connect on both ends of a one-and-one to reach the 20-point mark and to push Charlotte's lead back to three points, 58-55, with 17 seconds left in the game.

However, Saint Joseph's did not go away as Sarah Acker connected on a layup cutting Charlotte's lead back to one point with five seconds left in the game.
