Dayton, OH - The Charlotte 49ers (13-7, A-10: 4-0) behind a career-high 21 points from Traci Ray and a 12-0 run to begin the second half defeated Dayton (16-4, A-10: 2-2), 64-51, on the road to remain atop the A-10 standings as the only undefeated team in the league.
"The whole team contributed to tonight's victory," Charlotte coach Karen Aston said. "Traci Ray really set the tone for us with her scoring. Our defense was the big reason for the win tonight as we limited a good Dayton team to seven second half baskets. Our guards really set the tone for us with their play in the second half."
Ray knocked down four three-point field goals en route to her career-high 21 points. Erin Floyd scored 10 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Danielle Burgin added nine points and eight rebounds to the 49ers efforts.
The 49ers finished the game with a 44-31 advantage on the boards which led to a 17-6 advantage in second chance points. The 49ers also did a better job of holding onto the basketball in the second half with only four turnovers after committing 12 turnovers in the first half.
Charlotte's defense limited Dayton to 36.2% shooting from the field for the game and only 29.2% on 7-for-24 shooting in the second half.
The first half lead when back and forth as the largest lead was four points by Dayton on two occasions. The 49ers found themselves down by four points, 22-18, with 9:45 left in the half when Burgin connected on a layup and then Jabrenta Hubbard knocked down a three-point field goal while getting fouled. Hubbard completed the four-point play giving the 49ers a 24-22 lead with 8:17 left in the half.
