GREENVILLE, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers women's basketball team earned their 10th win of the season and improved to 2-0 in Conference USA action Sunday afternoon, defeating East Carolina, 79-63, at Minges Coliseum.
Peaches Harris had the hot hand for Charlotte (10-5, 2-0 C-USA) scoring 24 points. She knocked down four three-pointers to move past former 49er Nikki Richardson and into third place on the school's career list with 80. Alicia Abernathy posted her second double-double of the season with 12 points and 14 rebounds. Pam Brown added 19, while Sakellie Daniels scored 10.
East Carolina (8-7, 0-2 C-USA) was led by Jennifer Jackson and Courtney Willis. Jackson scored a game-high 25 points, including 18 in the second half, while Willis had 24.
The 49ers took the lead for good early in the first half, when they used a six-minute, 12-0 run to make the score 25-10. Charlotte led by 10 at halftime, 36-26. In the second half, the Niners shot 61 percent from the field and went on to pick up the 16-point victory.
Next weekend, the 49ers travel to Texas, where they play at Houston and TCU.
