Sabrina Gregory is in her second season as a director of basketball operations. Gregory joined the 49ers staff after a stellar four-year career as a guard on the women's basketball team. Gregory helped the 49ers win 80 games, claim the 2006 A-10 regular season title and reach postseason play four times during her collegiate career.
"I appreciated so much the passion she played the game with while here at Charlotte and she has transferred that to the professional side of our game," Charlotte coach Karen Aston said. "I knew the moment I met her that she has an extraordinary gift in leadership and I do believe that this will be a stepping stone for her into a successful coaching career. She has a love for the game and for Charlotte and is a tremendous asset to our program."
In the Spring of 2008, Gregory was named to the Division I Athletic Directors Association Scholar-Athlete team for the second straight season. Gregory was also named first-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District for the second straight year and to the A-10 Academic All-Conference team for the second straight season. She graduated from Charlotte with a degree in Mathematics for Business, May 2008.
In the 2007-08 season, she earned third-team All-Atlantic 10 honors for the second straight season. Gregory was also named to the A-10 All-Defensive team. She earned North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) University Division All-State honors for the second straight season as well.
In November, 2007, she became the 15th player in school history to score 1,000 career points. Finishing her career ranked 11th in school history with 1,286 career points. She did hold the program's record for career games played by appearing in 125 games. She finished her career at Charlotte ranked among the program's career leaders in points, assists, steals, field goals made, minutes played and games played.
Gregory finished the 2007-08 season second on the team in scoring (10.6 ppg) while leading the team in assists with 125. She led the Atlantic 10 in free-throw shooting at 86 percent. As a senior, she earned A-10 Player of the Week honors twice.
"It is such an honor to be given this opportunity," Gregory said. "To be able to continue being a part of the women's basketball program for which I played is a dream come true."
Gregory, as the director of operations, is responsible for team travel, coordinating the duties of the managers and working camps as well as various other duties that help 49ers women's basketball program run smoothly.
