Athens, Ga. - Charlotte men's tennis freshmen Anthony Davison and Charles Martin-Le Camp both won in singles action Friday as men's tennis began its 2008 fall season at the Southern Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament, at the University of Georgia today. Davidson is in the second bracket at the event.
Davison defeated Ryan Bouttell of Kennesaw State 6-3, 6-0 while Martin-Le Camp bested Alan Donald of Wofford 4-6, 6-5, 6-4 in their first collegiate action.
Martin-Le Camp advanced to day two of the competition, while Davison lost in the second round to Rafael Array of Armstrong Atlantic 6-4, 6-4.
Chris Huynh, playing in the top bracket, fell to Josh Girling of Tennessee Tech 6-0, 6-4. Michael Anders, playing in the second bracket, lost 6-3, 7-5 to Romain DeRidder of South Florida.
In the third bracket, Justin Kirstein of Tennessee Tech upended Niner Jesse Hutchinson 6-1, 6-2.
Ricky Cuellar lost to Rasid Winklaar of ABAC 6-0, 6-2 this afternoon in the top bracket, while Moritz Bernhoerster fell to Aaron Carpenter of Duke in the third bracket by a 6-3, 6-3 result.
Also in the third singles bracket, Jeff Archer lost to James Crawford of Tennessee Tech by a score of 6-3, 6-4.
Tonight, the doubles pairs hit the court. For Charlotte in the top bracket, Anders and Hutchinson fell to Georgia's pair of Jamie Hunt and Javier Garrapiz 8-3. Also in the top flight are Bernhoerster and Archer, and they fell to Middle Tennessee State's John Peers and Richard Cowden 8-2.
