NEW ORLEANS - The men's tennis team defeated Louisville, 4-3, to finish third in the 2001 Conference USA Tournament. This is the program's best finish ever in Conference USA.
This win also marked the team's 14th win of the season. This is the third time that Jim Boykin has won 14 matches in a season. This win all but assures that Charlotte will finish the season ranked in the ITA Top 75.
This win also marks the first time that Charlotte has defeated Louisville in men's tennis.
In number one singles, Charlotte's Ola Jonsson defeated Louisville's Tvrtko Kujundzic, 6-2, 7-6.
In number two singles, Charlotte's Jacob Nordwall defeated Louisville's Joachim Lien, 6-1, 6-1.
In number three singles, Charlotte's Joakim Peterson defeated Louisville's Paulo Carvalho, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5.
In number four singles, Charlotte's Thomas Oggesen lost to Louisville's Oliver Cantrell, 6-4, 6-4.
In number five singles, Charlotte's Simon Dawson lost to Louisville's Cody Conley, 6-4, 6-0.
In number six singles, Charlotte's Jonathan McGovern lost to Louisville's Matt Mayer, 6-3, 6-3.
In number one doubles, Charlotte's Nordwall and Peterson defeated Louisville's Kujundzic and Lien, 8-6.
In number two doubles, Charlotte's Jonsson and Oggesen defeated Louisville's Conley and Carvalho, 8-6.
In number three doubles, Charlotte's McGovern and Dawson lost to Louisville's Cantrell and McCombe, 8-3.
