Boiling Springs, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers men's tennis team won its second straight match, a 4-3 decision at Gardner-Webb University Monday. Charlotte plays two more matches this week, both conference tilts, at Richmond and at George Washington. The Niners improve to 6-8 this season.
The Niners took the doubles point with a sweep of the three doubles matches. Charlotte's number-one pair of Brad Clinard and Jesse Hutchinson improved to 2-1 with an 8-3 win. The Bernhoerster brothers, senior Felix and freshman Moritz jumped to 6-2 together with an 8-6 win at number-two. At number-three doubles, Chris Huynh and Ricky Cuellar stayed a perfect 2-0 in an 8-6 decision.
In singles play, Charlotte and Gardner-Webb split their singles points in a close match. All three freshman won their singles matches, and did so in straight sets, starting with Michael Anders at number-three. Moritz Bernhoerster also won at number-five, while Chris Huynh took the number-six match.
The Richmond match will take place at 2:30 on Wednesday.
