Charlotte, NC - The Charlotte 49ers men's tennis team, despite claiming the doubles point, lost a hard-fough match, 5-2, to Winthrop at the D.L. Phillips Tennis Complex.
The 49ers won two of the three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. At number one doubles, Charlotte's Roy Sichel and Dorian Host lost to Winthrop's Clayton Almeida and Rodrigo Santos, 8-5. At number two doubles, Charlotte's Jonathan Clark and Stuart Lynas defeated Winthrop's Thiago Barbosa and Vinicius Bortolatto, 8-5. At number three doubles, Charlotte's Jonathan Vencatachellum and Marlo Santoso lost to Winthrop's Jorge Padilla and Alejandro Portugal, 8-6.
Winthrop won five of the six singles matches to win the match. At number one singles, Charlotte's Sichel lost in three hard fought sets to Winthrop's Almeida, 3-6, 6-2, 7-5. At number two singles, Charlotte's Marlo Santoso lost to Winthrop's Bortolatto, 6-2, 6-1. At number three singles, Charlotte's Clark lost to Winthrop's Santos, 6-3, 6-2. At number four singles, Charlotte's Host defeated Winthrop's Portugal, 6-4, 0-6, 6-4. At number five singles, Charlotte's Vencatachellum lost to Winthrop's Padilla, 6-0, 6-4. At number six singles, Charlotte's Zvi Lantsberg lost to Winthrop's Barbosa, 6-4, 6-3.
The 49ers battle Belmont-Abbey at home, Saturday, February 12 at 10 am.
