Charlotte Wins Doubles Point at South Carolina, Drops Match 6-1 Saturday

Columbia, S.C. - The Charlotte 49ers took a 6-1 loss at South Carolina Saturday morning in men's tennis action. Charlotte drops to 1-5 on the season, with USC improving to 5-0.
For only the second time this season, Charlotte won the doubles point. The Bernhoerster brothers won their second doubles match together in as many tries, taking the number-two match 9-7. At number-three, freshmen Michael Anders and Chris Huynh won 8-6 to give the Niners the doubles point.
Charlotte did not capture a singles match, despite all but one player scoring three or more points in at least one set. Jeff Archer dropped his number-six singles match in a third superset.
"We were very pleased to come away with the doubles point today," said Niner head coach Jim Boykin. "USC is as good or better than they have been in the last two or three years. We played good, solid tennis and just lost to a solid team. The match lasted five hours and the results weren't as close as it actually played out. We feel good heading into our two Sunday matched before a tough week ahead."
Charlotte hosts Johnson C. Smith at 10 a.m. Sunday and then plays Pfeiffer at home at 2 p.m.
