Adam Ruud and Floyd Franks earned first-team all-conference honors for the second straight season

Nov. 9, 2005

Charlotte, NC - Five Charlotte 49ers men's soccer players earned All-Atlantic 10 honors. Seniors midfielder Floyd Franks and forward Adam Ruud were named first-team All-Atlantic 10. While defenders junior Evan Harding and senior John Nabers earned second-team All-Atlantic 10 honors. While freshman defender Beau Fraser was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie team.

"I am proud of all five of our players that earned All-Atlantic 10 honors," Charlotte coach John Tart said. "This is a tribute to those players for their talent and all their hard work this season. They are all deserving of these honors."

Franks and Ruud both a earned first-team All-Conference USA honors last season. While Nabers was a third-team All-Conference USA selection last season. Fraser is the 15th different 49er to garner conference all-freshman team honors. Three of the 49ers four defenders earned All-Atlantic 10 honors.

Franks, who earned all-conference honors in each of his four seasons at Charlotte, has been named Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the week twice this season. The senior midfielder was a preseason All-Atlantic 10 selection. He enters the A-10 tournament second on the team with five goals and 12 points. He scored his fifth goal of the season which was the game-winner in the 49ers A-10 Tournament berth clinching 1-0 win over #14 Duquesne, which give him at least five goals for three straight seasons.

Ruud, who was a third-team NSCAA All-South region selection with Franks last season, currently ranks among the league leaders with a team-high eight goals. In only two seasons with the 49ers, he has recorded 19 goals including five game-winning goals. He enters the A-10 Tournament with 44 career points which is two points shy of moving into the program's all-time top ten in the category.

Harding, who is a team co-captain and a first-time all-conference selection, is one of the 49ers most versatile players who saw action in the midfield as well as at defender. However, he primarily saw action as a defender. He played an integral role on a defense that recorded five shutouts and limited nine foes to a goal or less this season. He enters the A-10 Tournament third on the team with two goals and tied for second with three assists. He scored the game-winning goal in the 49ers first win of the season over Appalachian State. He also scored the 49ers first goal of the season against Davidson.

Nabers, who is a team co-captain, is the first 49ers defender to earn all-conference honors two years in a row since Shane Carew was a three-time All-Conference USA selection, 2000-02. The senior defender missed some time this season due to injury. But he did make 11 starts and in those 11 starts the 49ers recorded three shutouts and limited six foes to a goal or less. He also scored his first career goal on the road at Massachusetts a couple of weeks ago.

Fraser, who was a preseason Atlantic 10 all-rookie selection, has seen action in all 17 games entering the A-10 tournament with 16 starts. He has helped anchor a defense that has recorded five shutouts. He assisted on Ruud's first goal against St. Bonaventure in the 49ers A-10 opener.

Franks, Fraser, Harding, Nabers and Ruud and the rest of the 49ers open Atlantic 10 Tournament play against fourth-seed Dayton at Saint Louis University, Thursday, November 10 at 8:30 pm.
