Charlotte, NC - Charlotte 49ers men's soccer sophomore forward Andres Cuero was named the first Atlantic 10 Player of the Week in 2008 for his performance in the 49ers two victories in the Davidson/Adidas Classic. Cuero is the sixth different 49ers men's soccer player to garner A-10 Player of the Week honors in the program's history.
Cuero, who was named to the Davidson/Adidas Classic All-Tournament team, scored a goal in the 49ers season-opening 5-1 victory over cross-county rival Davidson last Friday. Then, he scored two goals including the game-winning goal and assisted on two other goals in the 49ers 5-3 win over College of Charleston last Sunday. This game marked the second time in his career that he has scored two goals in a game.
Cuero currently leads the 49ers in goals with three and points with eight. He is tied with Chris Salvaggione for the team lead in assists with two.
Cuero and the rest of the 49ers men's soccer team do not return to regular season action until September 12 when they play Coastal Carolina in the first game of the UNC Wilmington Marriott Classic. This weekend, the 49ers will play their annual Alumni game at the 49ers Practice Field, Saturday, September 6 at 6 pm.
