Charlotte, NC - The Charlotte 49ers men's soccer team after posting victories over Davidson (5-1) and College of Charleston (5-3) this past weekend have been voted into the national rankings at #24 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll. This marks the 49ers men's soccer program's first national ranking since being ranked #19 in the NSCAA poll, September 28, 1998. Charlotte is also ranked #1 in the latest NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Region poll.
The 49ers had a stretch from 1991-98 where they appeared in the national rankings each season and in six of those eight years, the 49ers earned a top 10 national ranking. The 49ers highest final national ranking have been #4 in 1994 and #5 in 1996.
Sophomore Andres Cuero leads the 49ers in scoring with three goals, two assists and eight points. While, senior Chris Salvaggione, who was a preseason All-Atlantic 10 selection, and junior Luke Exley are tied for second on the team with two goals apiece.
Charlotte does not return to regular season action until September 12 when they play Coastal Carolina in the first game of the UNC Wilmington Marriott Classic. This weekend, the 49ers will play their annual Alumni game at the 49ers Practice Field, Saturday, September 6 at 6 pm.
