Box Score

Charlotte, N.C. - Behind two second-half goals from freshman forward Andres Cuero, the Charlotte 49ers men's soccer team pushed past conference foe Saint Joseph's (5-10-1; A-10: 4-3-0) Sunday afternoon at Transamerica Field. The win moves Charlotte to a six-game unbeaten streak (11-5-1; A-10: 5-2-1), allowing the 49ers to maintain their position as the second-ranked team in the Atlantic 10.

Before the game, seniors Paul Begue, Tim Seibert, Graham Tatters and Tom Woollard were honored for their contributions to the program.

"I am in debt to all four of our seniors for being an enormous help to me and the program," head coach Jeremy Gunn said. "They truly set the standard for us this season."

After a rocky start to the contest, the 49ers enjoyed a 16-10 shot advantage.

"Today was a much slower-paced game than I like to see," Gunn said. "Still, despite the teams being a bit flat, we performed well."

Sophomore forward Adam Gross broke open the scoring in the 36th minute of the first half, successfully fielding an assist from sophomore forward Kevin Fox before going one-on-one with the Saint Joseph keeper and putting the ball in the left corner of the net.

Cuero scored the game-winning goal in the 54th minute off a Gross cross to the right side, before returning to finish the 49er offensive attack in the 80th minute, heading the ball into the back of the net off a corner kick from junior midfielder Kent Long. The goals marked his second and third of the season.

Saint Joseph's answered in the 56th minute, fruitfully delivering a Colin Baker penalty kick, but failed to rally beyond that point.

"It really means something to get a win on Senior Day and come away with a wonderful memory," Tatters said.

Charlotte returns to action for its final regular season game Saturday at Saint Louis.
