Men's Soccer Defeats NC State 1-0 in the Big Four Soccer Tournament

Charlotte posts their fourth all-time win over NC State

Greensboro, NC - Charlotte defeated NC State 1-0 in the Big Four Men's Soccer Tournament at UNC Greensboro.

The win marked Charlotte's fourth all-time against NC State and the first since a 2-1 overtime win in Raleigh, November 1, 1998.

Charlotte improved to 8-7-2 on the season while NC State fell to 2-11-3 on the season.

The only goal of the game came on an NC State own goal. Charlotte defender Joe Lampert crossed the ball to the far NC State goal post toward midfielder David McGill. However NC State defender Ross Weikel intercepted the cross and headed the ball into in his own goal attempting to clear the ball out at the 51:10 mark of the match.

Charlotte controlled the match as they outshot NC State 22-11 in the match. Charlotte had several goal scoring opportunities but either their shots went wide or were stopped NC State goalkeeper Mitchell Watson.

Watson corralled 13 Charlotte shots. While Charlotte goalkeeper John McDonough posted his fourth shutout of the season on five saves.

Charlotte will conclude their regular season as they host ACC foe Clemson at Transamerica Field, Sunday, November 5 at 2 pm.
