Final Stats

DURHAM, N.C. - The Charlotte men's soccer team blanked Duke, 1-0, to claim the Big Four Classic Title. This was Charlotte's first ever win over Duke in their 12th meeting.

"I am pleased that we were able to win two matches over tough ACC opponents," Charlotte coach John Tart said. "We found a way to win this match. Lucas Mackanos was tremendous for Charlotte in goal."

The match's lone goal came at the 18:57 mark when Chris Wargin scored on a penalty kick. Wargin's goal was his third of the Big Four Classic. Wargin's penalty kick came as a result of Juan Munoz-Airey being fouled in the penalty box by a Duke defender.

Duke outshot Charlotte 20-7. The Blue Devils had several scoring chances in the match particularly in the second half but either their shots went wide or Charlotte goalkeeper Lucas Mackanos was able to stop them.

Mackanos collected 10 saves in recording his third shutout of the season.

Charlotte improved to 7-6-2 on the season. While Duke fell to 7-8 on the season.

Charlotte returns to action when they host Conference USA rival Louisville, Thursday, November 1 at 7 pm at Transamerica Field.
