Greensboro, NC - Charlotte fell to #9 Duke 5-4 in the first game of the Big Four Tournament at UNC Greensboro.
Charlotte scored the game's first goal when Rob Evitts sent a corner kick to Juan Munoz-Airey who found Chris Wargin at the left side of the goal. Wargin connected on his scoring shot at the 26:56 mark of the match.
Duke tied the match at 1-1 when Jordan Cila connected on a shot off a Justin Bodiya assist at the 29:24 mark of the match.
Charlotte took a 2-1 halftime lead when C.J. Robinson connected on a goal off a David McGill assist at the 38:01 of the match.
Duke would score four straight goals in the first seventeen minutes of the second half to take a 5-2 lead. Robert Russell scored Duke's first goal of the half. Then, Ali Curtis scored two straight goals. Then Jordan Cila added his second goal of the match to end Duke's scoring at the 60:35 mark.
Charlotte cut the Duke lead to 5-3 when David Costa headed in a Ntando Tsambo cross at the 82:17 mark.
Charlotte cut the Duke lead to 5-4 when Stephen Miller sent a scoring blast past Duke goalkeeper Scott Maslin off a Joe Lampert assist at he 83:28 mark of the match.
Charlotte took several shots at the goal in the final minutes of the match but were unable to tie the score.
Charlotte will face NC State in the Big Four Tournament, Sunday, October 29 at 1 pm.
