CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte men's soccer shutout Conference USA foe Marquette, 1-0 at Transamerica Field.

"This was a must win game for us," Charlotte coach John Tart said. "I am very proud of the way we played today. We found a way to win a very important match in regards to the Conference USA standings."

Charlotte's goal came at the 52 minute mark of the match, when Juan Munoz-Airey scored his fifth goal of the season off an assist from Tim Flavin. Munoz-Airey's scoring shot deflected off a Marquette defender into the goal.

Both teams had several other scoring chances in the match as Charlotte outshot Marquette 14-12. But both goalkeepers were up to the task as they each finished with eight saves. Charlotte goalkeeper Lucas Mackanos recorded his second shutout of the season.

Charlotte improves to 5-6-2 overall and 3-2-1 in Conference USA. While Marquette falls to 7-5-1 overall and 3-3 in Conference USA.

Charlotte returns to action this weekend at the Big Four Classic in Durham, North Carolina. They face ACC foes NC State and Duke in the Classic.
