CHARLOTTE - The Charlotte men's soccer team defeated Elon 2-1 when freshman Mira Mupier scored the game-winning goal with just over eighteen minutes left in the game.
"Mira showed a lot of courage tonight," Charlotte coach John Tart said. "He is only about 60% now due to an injury. But he got in a good spot on the field and was able to score the game-winning goal. Goalkeeper Lucas Mackanos made several big saves for us in the closing minutes of the game."
Charlotte scored first when Rob Evitts took a pass from Juan Munoz-Airey and connected on a scoring blast from about 25 yards out with just over 11 minutes gone in the match.
Elon tied the score at 1-1 when Ryan Murphy scored on a penalty kick after a Charlotte foul in the goalie box at the 42 minute mark.
Then, Mupier scored the game-winning goal when he connected on a scoring shot at the 74 minute mark off a cross from Tim Flavin. This marked Mupier's third straight game with a goal.
Charlotte improves to 3-4-2 on the season. While Elon fell to 1-6 on the season.
Charlotte returns to action this Sunday, October 7 at Conference USA rival TCU.
