Box Score

Boone, NC - The Charlotte 49ers (5-3) behind two goals from Tom Woollard and a strong overall team effort blanked Appalachian State, 4-0, on the road. The victory was the 49ers second straight shutout win. While Appalachian State saw their eight match unbeaten streak end.

"Today's win was a fantastic overall team performance," Charlotte coach Jeremy Gunn said. "We had our best performance of the season today. Everyone was sharp on our team from start to finish. We did not give them room to play and we were never in trouble in today's game. It was also great that we were able to post our second straight shutout. Again it was just a tremendous total team win today."

Woollard scored the game's first goal when he put a beautiful pass from Chris Salvaggione in the back of the net at the 25:49 mark of the match.

The 49ers added their second goal when Will Shull controlled the ball in the midfield and found Salvaggione. Then, Salvaggione passed the ball to Woollard who blasted a shot from 12 yards out into the back of the net at the 26:42 mark of the match for his second goal of the game and his third of the season.

Charlotte scored their third goal when Adam Gross blasted a shot toward the goal that was deflected back out. Then, Gross got the rebound and sent a shot back toward the goal that was deflected off an Appalachian State defender into the back of the net at the 63:27 mark.

Gross scored the game's final goal and the first of his career when he beat several Appalachian State defenders and finished the run off with a wonderful goal at the 86:15 mark of the match.

49ers goalkeeper David Martin collected four saves as he recorded his second straight shutout and his ninth shutout of his career. The 49ers defense have not allowed a goal in the last 215 minutes of action.

The 49ers return to action when they travel to Central Florida for their final non-conference game, Wednesday, October 3.
