CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte men's soccer lost to #11 South Carolina, 1-0, in double overtime at Transamerica Field.
Charlotte falls to 1-2-2 with the loss while South Carolina improved to 3-1 on the season.
South Carolina scored the match's only goal when Joey Worthen headed the ball over the outstretched arms of Charlotte goalkeeper Lucas Mackanos off a Ryan Stocking cross at the 117 minute mark of the match.
"I was pleased with our effort tonight," Charlotte coach John Tart said. "I was disappointed with the result but not with the way the team played. I was particularly pleased with our team's defensive efforts in the second half and in both overtimes. This was a great team effort."
South Carolina outshot Charlotte 13-6. But both teams had several scoring chances throughout the match that either hit the goalpost or went just wide of the goal.
Charlotte returns to action when they travel to cross-county rival Davidson, Saturday, September 22 at 7 pm.
