Birmingham, AL - The Charlotte men's soccer team battled UAB to a double overtime 1-1 draw on the road.

Charlotte moves its record to 3-2-1 overall and 1-1-1 in Conference USA. While, UAB moves to 2-2-1 overall and 0-0-1 in Conference USA.

Charlotte scored first when C.J. Robinson scored off assists from David McGill and David Pedreschi with just over 19 minutes gone in the match.

UAB tied the match at 1-1 when Nelson Mata scored off an assist from Roberto Najarro with sixty minutes gone in the match.

Both teams had several scoring opportunities in the remaining minutes of regulation but neither team was able to score the go-ahead goal.

With the score tied at 1-1 at the end of regulation, two 15 minute overtimes would be needed to decide the outcome. Neither team was able to score a goal in the first overtime period.

However, with a couple of minutes gone in the second overtime period, UAB appeared to score the winning goal. But the Blazers were called for offsides negating the goal.

Charlotte goalkeeper John McDonough collected a season-high eight saves in the draw, as UAB recorded 16 shots in the match.

The 49ers return to action when they host Conference USA rival Memphis in the second game of the Charlotte/Puma Classic, Friday, September 22 at 8 pm.
