Men's Soccer Shuts Out East Carolina, 1-0, In C-USA Opener

GREENVILLE, NC - For a second consecutive year, the men's soccer match between East Carolina and Charlotte ended with a final score of 1-0, but this time it was Charlotte that prevailed. Tim Flavin scored the match's only goal in the 73rd minute to lift the 49ers past the Pirates. Flavin has scored a goal in three straight matches.

Charlotte coach John Tart became the program's all-time winningest coach as a result of today's win. He currently has 78 wins in his eight seasons at the helm of the 49ers' men's soccer program.

The 49ers recorded their second straight shutout as goalkeeper Lucas Mackanos collected his sixth career shutout.

Charlotte improved to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in league play. The loss dropped East Carolina to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in Conference USA.

The two teams played a scoreless first half with each squad recording five shots. East Carolina finished the game with a one shot advantage over the 49ers, 14-13.

The 49ers return to action when they host Winthrop in their home opener, Wednesday, September 18 at 7 pm.
