Charlotte defeated DePaul 3-1 in the Conference USA opener for both teams

Charlotte, NC - The Charlotte men's soccer team scored three second half goals to come from behind to beat DePaul 3-1 iin the Conference USA opener for both teams.

Charlotte improved to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in Conference USA. While DePaul fell to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in Conference USA.

DePaul got on the scoreboard first with a goal from Shane Hudson at the 17:30 mark of the first half.

Charlotte tied the game at 1-1 when C.J. Robinson scored on an indirect free kick after a DePaul foul just outside the penalty box with just over four minutes gone in the second half.

Charlotte took the lead for good when Stephen Miller scored about three minutes later off assists from David Pedreschi and David McGill.

Charlotte closed out their scoring when Tim Flavin scored off assist from Miller and Brett Baker at the 71:45 mark.

Charlotte recorded their highest shot total of the season as they had 17 shots in the game. They limited DePaul to only six shots in the game.

"In the first half we did not use our flanks," Charlotte head coach John Tart said. "DePaul was forcing us to play the ball in the middle of the field. However, in the second half we began to use our wide players to stretch the field. This enabled us to get scoring opportunities."

The 49ers return to action when they host Conference USA rival Cincinnati, Wednesday, September 13 at 7 pm.
