MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Charlotte tied Memphis 1-1 in double overtime in the first game of the University of Memphis/Diadora Tournament.

"I feel that this was our best effort of the season," Charlotte coach John Tart said. "I am very proud of the way we played."

Charlotte's Juan Munoz-Airey scored the game's first goal when he connected on a scoring shot at the 26:34 mark of the match. David McGill had an assist on the goal.

Memphis tied the score at 1-1 when Lars Thorstensen scored on a penalty kick at the 68:28 mark of the match.

Charlotte scored what appeared to the game-winning goal when Mira Mupier headed the ball into the goal at the end of the first overtime. However, the shot happened after the horn sounded.

They return to action in their second game of the Memphis/Diadora Classic when they face Alabama A & M, Sunday, September 9 at 12:30 pm.
