CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Charlotte men's soccer team behind two first half goals defeated Appalachian State 3-2 in their first exhibition game of the season.
The Forty-Niners opened the scoring when sophomore Juan Munoz-Airey connected on a goal from about 15 yards out off an assist from junior David Pedreschi with just over 37 minutes gone in the game.
Charlotte added their second goal of the game when junior Stephen Miller scored a breakaway goal with just about a minute left in the first half.
Appalachian State cut Charlotte's lead in half when Roddy Chisholm scored an unassisted goal off a deflection by the Forty-Niners with just over six minutes gone in the second half.
Charlotte concluded their scoring when senior C.J. Robinson scored on a penalty kick halfway through the second half increasing the Niners lead to 3-1.
Appalachian State scored the game's final goal when David Boyd connected on a score with just under five minutes left in the game.
The Niners hosts Winthrop, Saturday, August 26 at 7 pm in their final exhibition game.
