Former 49er Jeff Curl Finishes Tied for 40th at Q School

Top 75 Finish Earns Curl Nationwide Tour Privileges

La Quinta, Ca. - Former Charlotte 49ers golfer Jeff Curl shot a four-under par 68 in the sixth and final round of the final stage of the PGA's National Qualifying tournament to finish tied for 40th of 161 competitors. By virtue of his top 75 finish, Curl earns full privileges on the 2009 Nationwide Tour. The top 25 finishers earned their 2009 PGA Tour card.

Curl, shot eight-under par over the last two rounds to finish at 14-under par, 418 and jump into the top 75 finishers. He shot par or better in all six rounds of the event, but saved his best two rounds for last. He shot identical rounds of four-under par 68 on the last two days.

The final stage of the 2008 National Qualifying tournament was held at PGA West - Nicklaus Tournament Course and PGA West TPC Stadium Course. The National Qualifying tournament, commonly known as Q-School, consists of four stages of events to pare the list of hopefuls. Individuals must advance through a pre-qualification, first and second stage to the six-round, 108-hole final stage.

Curl shot a -9, 279 in the second stage qualifier at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Ga., Nov. 12-15, to join a four-way tie for 17th-place, earning one of the final spots to advance to the final stage. Among those that failed to advance from the Georgia qualifier: former PGA pros Billy Andrade and Len Mattiace.

Curl had shot a 10-under par 278 to tie for fifth, overall, and easily advance through the first stage at St. John's Golf and Country Club, in Jacksonville, Fla., Oct. 21-24.

Curl played for the 49ers from 1997-00 and was part of a pair of Conference USA Runner-up teams in 1998 and 1999. A first team all-Conference USA selection in 2000, Curl was also the 49ers 2000 team MVP.

A native of Ellington, Conn., Curl now calls Charlotte home.
