Charlotte, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers 2005 men's golf team was recognized at halftime of the 49ers men's basketball game vs. Portland, Monday, for winning the 2004-05 Conference USA Team Academic Award.
The 49ers posted a team GPA of 3.37, best among C-USA golf programs, to win the award. That team GPA included a 3.48 team GPA in the spring semester.
That team also earned the school's first-ever NCAA Tournament bid and was the 2005 C-USA runner-up.
Andrew DiBitetto, a freshman on last year's squad posted a perfect 4.0 GPA. Classmates Jonas Enander Hedin (3.90) and David Rawluk (3.80 GPA) both earned Chancellor's List (3.8 or higher) honors. Ray Sheedy owns a 3.85 cumulative GPA and was on the Chancellor's List both semesters last year and all four semesters of his college career.
This fall, head coach Jamie Green's 49ers continued their impressive golf play, following up last year's NCAA Tournament run with their first-ever appearance in the nation's Top 25. After posting four top 5 finishes in the four fall events, including two tournament titles, Charlotte rose as high as #17 and is currently ranked #21 by GolfWeek.
The golf team was the sixth 49er program to win a C-USA Team Academic award in the 49ers' 10-year stint in the league.
