Charlotte, N.C. - Charlotte 49ers senior golfer Stefan Wiedergruen (Waiblingen, Germany) was named an Atlantic 10 co-Golfer of the Week for the week ending Oct. 5, after posting a 17th-place individual finish at the PING/Golfweek Preview.
Wiedergruen, who was the defending individual champion at the event, which regularly attracts a top 25 field to the site of the upcoming NCAA Championship, shot +4, 217 to notch a top 20 finish. He led the 49ers to a 12th-place finish. Fourteen of the 15 teams in the field were ranked in the top 25.
Wiedergruen currently leads the 49ers with a 73.3 stroke average, after two events.
The PING/Golfweek Preview was played at the Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio, site of the 2009 NCAA Championship.
Wiedergruen was named A-10 Golfer of the Week, twice last year, as Charlotte won its third straight A-10 title.
The 49ers, who have posted back-to-back Top 10 finishes at the last two NCAA Championships, will play at the Brickyard Collegiate Championship in Macon, Ga., Oct. 11-13. The 49ers lineup will be led by Wiedergruen and junior Corey Nagy (Charlotte, N.C./Vance H.S.). Sophomore Will Golden (Auburn, Ala.), junior Blake Stark (Canton, Ga.) and senior David Rawluk (Dublin, Ire.) will make up the remainder of the 49ers lineup.
