Charlotte 49ers rising sophomore Ray Sheedy shot +9, 149, in the opening two rounds to advance to match play at the 2004 US Amateur at Winged Foot Golf Club. Sheedy finished tied for 42nd after the opening two rounds. Fellow 49er Andrew Dibitetto, an incoming freshman, shot +11, 151, to finish tied for 78th and miss the cut of +10, 150 by just one stroke. There were 311 of the nation's top amateurs participating in the event.
Sheedy, who was the Conference USA individual runner-up this past spring, is in action today against Tim Hogarth. Hogarth had qualified for match play with a +4, 144, to tie for eighth-best after two rounds.
Sheedy was named to the Conference USA all-freshman team this past year after posting a 74.6 stroke average and leading the 49ers to a runner-up finish at the C-USA Championships.
