Enander Hedin Named A-10 Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Senior Boasts 3.75 GPA; Ranked 7th, Individually, in Nation by Golfstat

Charlotte, N.C. - Charlotte 49ers senior Jonas Enander Hedin (Taby, Sweden) was named the Atlantic 10 Scholar-Athlete of the Year in Men's Golf and was joined by Stefan Wiedergruen (Waiblingen, Germany) on the Atlantic 10 all-Academic Team.

Enander Hedin, who has led the fifth-ranked 49ers in stroke average over the last two years, owns a 3.75 GPA with a major in Managerial Leadership. He is ranked seventh in the nation, individually, by Golfstat.He placed third at the recent A-10 Championships to help Charlotte to its third straight title. A 2007 GCAA Scholar all-America, he has been named to the all-Atlantic 10 Academic team for three straight years.

Charlotte has now won the A-10's Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award in men's golf in each of the last three years -- with three different individuals winning the award.

Charlotte's Andrew DiBitetto won the award last year and Ray Sheedy won it in 2005-06.

Enander Hedin leads the 49ers with a 71.1 stroke average, on pace to set a new school record for the 49ers. His career 72.78 stroke average is also on pace to be the 49ers all-time record. He has placed in the top 25 of all 11 events this year and owns six top 10 finishes. He has helped the 49ers to four straight NCAA Tournament berths, three straight A-10 Championships and the emergence of the program as a national contender. Charlotte finished third at the 2007 NCAA Championships and were the consensus #1-ranked team in the country, this past fall.

Enander Hedin was one of 20 finalists for the Nicklaus and Hogan Player of the Year Awards and is one of five finalists for the Byron Nelson Award, given to the top senior golfer who exhibited excellence in athletics, academics and character. He also accepted a bid to the 2008 Palmer Cup, a college version of the Ryder Cup.

 

 

Wiedergruen, who was Golf World's National Mid-Year Player of the Year, owns a 72.0 stroke average and has a 3.59 GPA in Business Management. He placed fifth at the A-10 Championships, his fourth top five finish of the year. He earned his first A-10 all-Academic Team Award.
