Enander Hedin One of Five Finalists For Byron Nelson Award

Awarded to College Senior Based Athletics, Academics and Character

May 5, 2008

Charlotte, N.C. - Charlotte 49ers senior Jonas Enander Hedin (Taby, Sweden) is one of five finalists for the 2008 Byron Nelson Award presented by Cleveland Golf, in cooperation with the Four Seasons Resort and Club Las Colinas and the Salesmanship Club of Dallas, the Golf Coaches' Association of America (GCAA) announced today.

Candidates for the Nelson Award must be a graduating senior and the selection committee considers equally a nominee's entire collegiate academic and golf career and his character and integrity while in college. Particular consideration will be given to a nominee's good citizenship, as portrayed by Mr. Byron Nelson over the course of his life and golf career.

Enander Hedin, the fifth-ranked 49ers stroke average leader the last two years, owns a 3.75 GPA with a major in Managerial Leadership. A 2007 GCAA Scholar all-America, he has twice been named to the all-Atlantic 10 Academic team and is a nominee for the 2008 A-10 Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award.

He owns the 49ers record for lowest stroke average in a single-season (71.1, 2007-08) and career (72.78). He has helped the 49ers to four straight NCAA Tournament berths, three straight A-10 Championships and the emergence of the program as a national contender. Charlotte finished third at the 2007 NCAA Championships and were the consensus #1-ranked team in the country, this past fall.

The finalists are Bruno Buccolo of Oklahoma Christian, Charlotte's Jonas Enander Hedin, Rob Grube of Stanford, Washington & Lee's Nathaniel James and Joseph Sykora of Alabama.

The recipient of the Nelson Award - which is in its seventh year of sponsorship with Cleveland Golf - will be named prior to the NCAA Division I Championships.

Enander Hedin is now linked to many of the greatest names in golf history. He is a finalist for the Ben Hogan, Jack Nicklaus and Byron Nelson Awards and has been selected to play in the (Arnold) Palmer Cup.
