Rawluk Carries Niners into 4th-Place at CordeValle

San Martin, Ca. - Senior David Rawluk shot a four-under par 68, the best round of day two at the CordeValle Collegiate, to carry the 49ers into a tie for fourth-place. Rawluk, who shot two-over par 74 on day one is tied for third individually with a two-day total of -2, 142.
Rawluk's 68 was the only round in the 60's on day two.
The format of the CordeValle Collegiate uses six players from each team, with the top five scores counting in each round. Many collegiate tournaments use five golfers per team and count the top four scores.
Rawluk's standout second round helped the 49ers to a two-day total of +26, 746 -- tied for 4th with Arkansas. Southern California holds the first round lead at one-under par 719, 19 strokes ahead of current runner-up Stanford (+18, 738). Washington is third at +19, 739, followed by Charlotte and Arkansas. Defending national champ UCLA is 6th, two strokes behind the 49ers at +28, 748.
Rawluk is tied for third, idividually behind a pair of Trojans from USC: leader Tim Sluiter (-4, 140) and Matthew Giles (-3, 141). Rawluk is tied with Washington's Nick Taylor and Southern Cal's Jamie Lovemark.
Charlotte freshman Paul Ferrier is tied for 12th overall at +2, 146 following a two-over par 74 on day two. Senior Stefan Wiedergruen gives the 49ers three players in the top 20 at +5, 149, tied for 20th.
The third and final round will be played, Wednesday.
