Shamp, Samaha Lead Way After First Round

Oct. 30, 2001

Kitty Hawk, N.C. - Junior Mike Shamp shot a two over par 74 and freshman John Samaha added a three-over par 75 to lead the 49ers into seventh-place after one round at Old Dominion's Seascape Collegiate.

Maryland leads the 21-team field at 283 while the 49ers carded a team score of 304.

Shamp's 74 has him tied for 20th, individually, while Samaha, playing in just his second collegiate event continues to impress. Through his first four rounds of collegiate golf, Samaha owns a 74.0 stroke average.

Scott McNeil added a 77 and Mike Jolly carded a 78 in his first round of the fall season to complete the scoring for the 49ers. Andy Robertson shot an 81.

The final round of play will be Tuesday.
