Southern Pines, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers men's golf team opened its 2001-02 fall season with a 12th-place finish at the Mid-Pines Intercollegiate, hosted by UNC Greensboro in Southern Pines, N.C. Texas Tech won the tournament at 20-under-par, three strokes better than runner-up San Diego State.

49ers junior Mike Shamp (70-72-73 -- 215) shot one-under par over the three-round tournament to lead the 49ers, who finished at +13 (290-292-295 -- 877). Shamp's one-under par tournament placed him tied for 20th individually. Sophomore Sam McFall carded a three-round 220 (+4) and junior Andy Robertson posted a three-round 221 (+5), to finish tied for 40th and 43rd respectively.
